People often eat ice cream during this season to avoid the scorching sun and heat. Everyone, whether children or the elderly, enjoys various flavors and types of ice cream. Not only that, but it is now a mild winter, and its popularity is growing even in the rain. Whether it's a wedding or a family gathering, the feast is incomplete without ice cream. This cold ice cream comes in a variety of flavors, which people eat according to their preferences.

But have you ever wondered where the ice cream you enjoy in the summer comes from? Do you know where the first ice cream was made? If not, today's article will tell you about the long and fascinating history of ice cream.

It took 4500 years to reach India

You'll be surprised to learn that the history of the ice cream you enjoy eating is much older than 100–200 years. Not only that, but it had to travel approximately 4500 years to reach India. It was originally known as Kulfi. Kulfi is thought to have originated in Iran because it is a Persian word. It is typically made from milk. However, when it comes to ice cream, it is made by combining ice and fruit juice.

This is how ice cream was first made

In fact, the Iranians invented ice cream in 600 BC by combining ice and fruit juice. Later, flavorful and refreshing ice cream made its way to western countries via Greece and Arabia. Many assumptions have been made about the history of ice cream. Some believe that ice cream was invented in China around 3000 BC, or approximately 5000 years ago. At the same time, some claim that Italian businessman Marco Polo invented ice cream.

Ice cream was made from rice and milk

It is also said that in 400 BC, the Persians began making various flavors of ice cream. It is also thought that around 200 BC, ice cream was created in China using rice and milk, similar to the cold pudding found in India. It is also said that when Marco Polo visited China between 1254 and 1324, he learned how to make ice cream. After that, Marcopolo took it to Italy, then to France, and from there, the ice cream made its way to America. Ice cream, which first appeared in England in the 17th century, made its way to South Asia with the Mughal emperors.

How did ice cream reach India?

Not only that, but Alexander was a huge fan of ice cream around 350 BC. He was a big fan of honey and flower ice cream. Aside from that, Nero, the ruler of France, enjoyed ice cream made from flower juice. When ice cream first arrived in India, it was with the Mughal emperors. Several documents mention an ice cream-like dish made for Emperor Akbar, the recipe for which can also be found in Aina-i-Akbari and Akbarnama. Ice cream, previously restricted to royal families and wealthy individuals, gradually gained popularity among the general public, and everyone from mango to special began to sample it.
