New Delhi: PM Modi today addressed the nation on the auspicious occasion of Guru Parv and Kartik Purnima. In his address, he announced the withdrawal of all the three new agricultural laws for which farmers had been struggling for a long time. Let me tell all of you that for the last year, farmers have been agitating on the borders of Delhi to withdraw all three agricultural laws. Now let us tell you what those three agricultural laws were?

The first Agricultural Law- The Agricultural Production Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020. According to this law, farmers could sell their crops at the desired place. Not only that, they could sell and buy crops in other States without any hindrance. At the same time, any licensed trader could buy the produce at mutually agreed prices from the farmers. Yes, and this trade in agricultural products was exempted from the market tax levied by the State Governments.

The second agricultural law- The second law was the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Price Assurance and Agricultural Services Act, 2020. In fact, this law was meant to allow farmers to cultivate contracts and market their products independently. Under this law, losses in case of crop failure would have been compensated not by the farmers but by the parties or companies making the agreement.

The third agricultural law- The third law was the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act. In fact, under this Law, the stock limit was removed from commodities like foodgrains, pulses, edible oil and onion for trade except in exceptional conditions.
