Republic Day is celebrated every year which is about to come this year s well. The Constitution of India officially came into force on 26th January 1950 and this historic day is called Republic Day. Today, we are going to tell you why the Republic Day is celebrated.

India got independence from British rule after a long struggle on 15th August 1947. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, while declaring India's independence to the citizens, narrated his famous speech 'Tryst with Destiny'. But, sadly, India did not have the right to elect its own government, the reason behind this was that there was no provision in India at that time. But finally, two and a half years later, on 26th January 1950, the Indian Constitution came into force, thus making India one of the largest democracies in the world. It is said that it was on the day when India was declared as a sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic republic and to honour this day, on 26th January every year, the Indian Republic Day is celebrated all over the country with great fanfare.

Bhim Rao Ambedkar was appointed as its Chairman and the Drafting Committee was constituted for the same. The only objective of setting up this committee was to draft the Constitution of India, which would be the highest law of India. The Constitution underlines the broad structure of fundamental political code, structure, powers, procedures and duties of all government institutions and also explains the fundamental rights and duties of all citizens of India. In the meantime, the Committee tried for several months and handed over the first draft of the Constitution to the Constituent Assembly on 4th November 1947. Thereafter, with the necessary amendment to the Constitution, finally, 2 years, 11 months and 18 days of hard work showed the result.
