World Sparrow Day is celebrated every year on 20 March. Even today sparrows are found in many countries of the world. This day is being celebrated to increase awareness and protection of sparrows among the people. Due to many reasons including increasing pollution, the number of sparrows has come down significantly and their existence is under threat.

History of World Sparrow Day: World Sparrow Day, a special initiative was started by the Nature Forever Society of India as well as the EcoSage Action Foundation of France. The society was started by the famous environmentalist Mohammad Dilawar. He was included in the "Heroes of the Environment" by Time magazine in 2008. For the first time in the year 2010, World Sparrow Day was celebrated on 20 March. With which this day is also celebrated every year on 20 March. On this day, people working for the conservation of sparrows are also honored with the Sparrow Award.

Some interesting facts related to sparrow: Scientific name of sparrow is Passer domesticus and common name is house sparrow. Whose height is 16 cm and wingspan is only 21 cm. Sparrow weighs 25 to 40 grams. Sparrows make their living by eating grains and insects. It is more like living in villages than in cities.

The number of sparrows is decreasing: Let us tell that the number of sparrows is continuously decreasing. According to the study, whose number has come down by 60 percent. One of the objectives of celebrating World Sparrow Day is to encourage our youth and nature enthusiasts to love and care for sparrows.
