Mumbai: The statement of the coach of the Indian team, Virat Kohli, was described by the COA as freedom to speak. When applications were sought for the Chief Coach of the Indian Cricket Team, the Chairman of the Committee of Administrators (COA) Vinod Rai had categorically stated that there would be no role of captain in the process.
On the other hand, captain Virat Kohli had openly revealed his preference for the coach position and supported Ravi Shastri before leaving for the West Indies tour. After expressing his preference for Kohli, the COA has said that the captains are in a democratic country and have a right to speak.
A COA member said Kohli lives in a democratic country and cannot stop him from speaking. When asked if the captain's talk about his relationship with Ravi Shastri is a kind sign for the three-member Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC)? On this, the COA Member said that it is not so.
The Member said that it is his view and he has revealed it. It is a democratic country and, therefore, we cannot prevent anybody from saying anything. Because each word of each sheach counts? He may be the captain of the team, but there is a CAC and he has to decide on the appointment of a coach. The Member said that people are living in this country and you cannot stop everybody from talking about it. It has to be seen how CAC takes Kohli's comment.
