Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court on Monday dealt a severe blow to the Mamata government in West Bengal. The court has ordered the release of Rakhal Bera, who is close to BJP leader Subhendu Adhikari, who was arrested on charges of a fake government job scam. Police said Rakhal Bera was arrested from outside his residence on the basis of a complaint by a man named Sujit Dey at Manikatla police station.

In fact, Sujit Dey had accused Bera and others of cheating people by cheating them of jobs in the state irrigation and waterways department. In his statement to the police, the complainant said that the accused Rakhal Bera organized a camp inside a flat of Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics Cooperative Housing Society on Maniktola Road in Kolkata between July 2019 and September 2019.

The complaint said that the accused had raised a huge amount of money from the public by pretending to get a job in Group D (Field Staff) of the West Bengal Irrigation and Waterways Department. The complainant also alleged that the accused took Rs 2 lakh from him but was not given a government job promised during the said camp held in 2019.
