Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court has ordered the police to register FIR cases of violence in West Bengal after the assembly elections and the Mamata government in the state to get the victims treated. A bench headed by Acting Chief Justice of the High Court Rajesh Bindal has also issued notices to DM and SP of the violence-hit districts seeking their response.

The court also asked the state government to arrange rations etc. In its interim order on Friday (July 2nd), the Calcutta High Court has also termed the Mamata Banerjee government's role in the violence against activists of opposition parties including BJP in West Bengal as suspicious and said that even though the administration is not accepting it, the reports of violence that started after the elections are absolutely true.

Based on the report of the Human Rights Commission (NHRC), the High Court in its interim order has said that the role of the State in the post-election violence cases in the state has not been satisfactory. The court said, "Many people were killed, seriously injured in the violence. Many victims suffered sexual harassment, even minor girls were not spared. People's property was destroyed and many were forced to leave their homes and seek asylum in neighboring states. Even then, the State did not take any concrete steps.'' The court even said that the complaints of many victims were not only registered but a case was registered against them on the contrary.
