In his statement on July 11, 2018, Shashi Tharoor had said that if the BJP wins the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, it would create a situation like making India a "Hindu Pakistan". Addressing a function in his parliamentary constituency Thiruvananthapuram, Tharoor had said that the BJP would write a new constitution that would pave the way for transforming India into a nation like Pakistan where the rights of minorities would be violated. The country's democratic constitution will be abolished because they have all the elements to abolish the Indian Constitution and write a new constitution. Tharoor had said that the new constitution written by the BJP would be based entirely on the principles of the Hindu nation, which would completely destroy the rights of minorities and make the nation a "Hindu Pakistan".
