KOLKATA: The Special Task Force (STF) of the Kolkata Police on Tuesday detained two people with fake notes with a face value of Rs 10 lakh.

According to police sources, the STF sleuths carried out a raid on a home in South Kolkata on the basis of specific information, and while there, they detained Abdur Rezzak Khan and Saher Ali and seized a shipment of counterfeit money. They had in their possession 2,000 counterfeit notes, each with a face value of Rs 500, an officer reported. Khan and Ali are both Assamese citizens.

The individuals detained have been registered under Section 102B. (criminal conspiracy). Sections 489B and 489C of the Indian Penal Code (possession of counterfeit currency). On Tuesday in Kolkata, a lower court will hear the cases of the two people who were recently detained.

police sources said, the two people who were arrested are likely a part of a larger conspiracy that trades in counterfeit money. The STF sleuths are questioning them in an effort to learn more about the racket's kingpins.
Within a three-week period, the STF detectives in Kolkata have successfully recovered two significant amounts of counterfeit currency.

On January 8, a man named Rakumul Sheikh was taken into custody after being found in possession of fake currency with a face value of Rs. 1,50,000.

Sheikh was a resident of Malda district in West Bengal. He was arrested earlier also for his involvement in the counterfeit currency racket.
