New Delhi: IIT Delhi and Koo App have taken a major step to make people aware of the need to curb air pollution and create a clean environment. For this, IIT Delhi's industry interface organisation- Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT) has announced a partnership with The Koo App. This partnership will reach a wider and more diverse section of the audience, including users who come across social media for the first time, with possible measures to curb the impact of air pollution, along with providing content in local languages at pollution levels.

IIT Delhi, in association with the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), has installed sensors at several places in India to track air pollution levels. Now IIT Delhi will create an API, which will be paired with the Koo App API to acquire data. This data will then be shared with users in the form of interactive content on the platform in the form of posts, photos and videos of local languages. To raise awareness about air pollution, the Koo app will create a specific handle, which will also include advice from doctors and experts to enable users to implement the necessary measures for their safety. Air pollution across the country is creating a major cause of concern and has caused many respiratory diseases among people. It is also known to cause a sharp rise in temperature. So public awareness through such partnerships is an important step toward reducing pollution levels and reducing its impact on society.

The partnership will start as a pilot study for six months and help identify specific sources of pollution. This will help policymakers and the government to formulate an evidence-based policy with data-driven accurate information being given.

Prof. of the Department of Management Studies at IIT Delhi. P Vigneshwar Ilavarasan said, "I am personally happy to know how the scientific evidence-based information (on pollution data) can be changed for the use of a large number of people through social media platforms like the Koo app. Customizing content according to local languages will help in bringing better results. This pilot project has the potential to inspire people across India to adopt behavioural habits that can ultimately help curb pollution. ”

The Institute Chair Professor of the Centre for Atmospheric Sciences at IIT Delhi, Prof. Sagnik Dey believes that air pollution is the biggest concern for the environment and health in India. He says, "Without public support and public awareness, the issue of air pollution cannot be solved. I am excited to explore people's perceptions of air pollution and be a part of this pilot project promoting habits associated with clean air. This will give us the chance to develop a more effective communication strategy and increase people's participation."

Aprameya Radhakrishna, co-founder and CEO of Koo App, said, "Social media is for the public good. The Koo app, as a responsible platform to raise awareness on subjects that affect citizens, is in the best position to work jointly with IIT Delhi. Through the Multi-Sexual Koo (MLK) feature, the Koo app can raise awareness at every level, including individual, community and government. Together we can ensure that concerns related to air pollution do not become a part of our children's future.''

About the Koo App:-

The Koo App was launched in March 2020 as a multilingual, micro-blogging platform of Indian languages to enable Indians to express themselves in their mother tongue. The Koo app has made a new change to language-based micro-blogging. Koo App is currently available in 10 languages including Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Assamese, Bengali and English. The Koo App democratises the voice of Indians by empowering them to share ideas and express themselves freely in the language of their choice. A wonderful feature of the platform is the translation that enables users to send their messages by translating them into multiple languages in real-time while maintaining the context and expression associated with the original text, which increases the reach of the users and accelerates the activation on the platform. The platform has touched the milestone of four crore downloads and more than 7,000 eminent personalities from politics, sports, media, entertainment, spirituality, art and culture actively take advantage of the platform to connect with the audience in their native language.
