Moscow: In the words of Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, the US and its allies' media have been organised for a war with Russia and are subject to military censorship in practise.
There are many reputable media outlets and professional, talented journalists in the West, but since they started this war against us, they are unquestionably under military censorship, according to Peskov.
The spokesperson for President Vladimir Putin participated in a panel discussion on "Elements of social engineering" at a youth conference in Solnechnogorsk, a town about 45 kilometres outside of Moscow.

Western media outlets, according to Peskov, "receive instructions and manuals from their special services, they get leaks of information - which are mostly, very often, specially and professionally prepared falsehoods - and do this round the clock."
Peskov stated that "unfortunately, the Anglo-Saxon media, American and British," are the most powerful media outlets on the planet. He continued, "very gingerly, but quite successfully," Russia has set out to compete with them.

Similar remarks were made by Peskov in May when he told a Bosnian Serb TV station that when the West attempted to compete with Russia's media monopoly, they "immediately became hysterical" and tore up their official commitment to free speech.
At the time, he told ATV, "They tore off all masks right away and showed there is no freedom of the press over there. Any outlets that began to present viewpoints that were "uncomfortable" to them or that diverged from their mainstream were immediately shut down.
He added that since early 2022, no Western media outlet has been granted an interview by the Kremlin because they view it as useless until they start demonstrating "at least some interest in the truth."

Shortly after the conflict in Ukraine erupted, the EU and Canada outright banned all branches of RT and Sputnik as "Kremlin propaganda." Several US-based social media sites adopted the same strategy. Then-CEO of YouTube Susan Wojcicki argued at the World Economic Forum in Davos last year that "information can be weaponized," so her company decided to globally enforce the EU's ban on RT and Sputnik while continuing to operate in Russia so that Russians could access "independent news" from the West.
