KSL Cleantech Partners With China's Huaihai to Enter Indian Electric Vehicle Segment

The electric two-wheeler segment in India is currently is a new one and constantly coming up in the segment. E-rickshaws and e-autos are also being launched. In the same link, Kolkata-based KSL has brought electric vehicles as joint ventures with Chinese company Huaihai. The joint venture is all set to launch 10 electric two and three-wheelers within the next 12-36 months in the country.

According to media reports, the company claims that its products will not be picked up directly from China but will also be customized and developed in India. The company has also announced an investment of Rs 200 crore to set up its own assembly and manufacturing unit in India. The company will be developing small commercial and passenger vehicles. The joint venture's portfolio includes a few different products, including electric loader rickshaws and e-scooters designed for food delivery companies.

In its statement, Huaihai Director Catherine Jing said the company is already in the electric 4-wheeler segment in India and plans to launch a range of electric 4-wheelers here. As for the total sales of electric vehicles in India, 7,59,600 electric vehicles have been sold in FY19. These include 1.26 lakh electric two-wheelers, 6.30 lakh electric three-wheelers and 3,600 electric passenger vehicles.
