Bangalore: Karnataka Congress chief D.K Shivakumar was seen showering currency notes on crowds during a roadshow on March  28.

Notably, In a video, Shivakumar was seen flinging Rs.500 notes from the rooftop of a bus as he campaigned in Bevinahalli in Mandya district.

In Mandya, which is considered to be a stronghold of the influential Vokkaliga minority, Shivakumar, who is seen as a strong chief minister candidate for the Congress, is actively campaigning.

The Congress leader, a Vokkaliga, is working to expand the party's support base in Mandya, which is thought to be a stronghold of the Janata Dal Secular.  The Janata Dal (Secular) (JDS) won seven seats in the district in the 2018 election.

For the 224-member assembly, the Congress has announced 124 candidates in its first list.

In the current Karnataka assembly, the BJP is represented with 121 seats. While the JDS has 30, the Congress has 70.

Since the BJP failed to win a majority in 2018, the Congress and the JDS established a government.

In 2019, the BJP formed a government with the help of dissident MLAs, several of whom went on to become ministers, following widespread resignations from the Congress and JDS.
