Bengaluru: The Karnataka Congress has asked that the Principal of Kundapur Pre-University College in the state's Udupi district be fired for denying Muslim girls in hijab admission to the college.

The administration has not required uniform at pre-university levels, according to Siddaramaiah, the Leader of the Opposition from the Congress party, who spoke to media on Friday.

The principal of Kundapur College in Udupi district has barred 19 Muslim students from visiting the college because they are wearing hijab. He claimed that this is a violation of citizens' fundamental rights.

"Raghupathi Bhat, an MLA, has informed the college administration that uniforms appear to be mandatory. That is this jerk who has made it mandatory? It is, after all, a government college. At the request of the BJP MLA, this Principal, who receives his salary from the state exchequer, stands at the entry and closes the gate. The college's principal should be fired "Siddaramaiah expressed himself.

20 Muslim girls reached the college wearing hijab, the principal said - come wearing the uniform.
