HYDERABAD: K.T. Rama Rao (KTR), the working president of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), dug up old tweets from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to unleash a broadside against him on Friday as the Indian currency hit an all-time low.
KTR posted many tweets from Modi from 2013, when the latter criticised the UPA government, which was then governed by the Congress, for the decreasing value of the rupee.
"To all the Bhakts who are providing guidance on how the global economy and Fed policy are influencing the rupee. Your rationale is not supported by Vishwa Guru Modi Ji; I'm only quoting from his incredible pearls of knowledge "KTR wrote.
KTR, who serves as a senior minister in the Cabinet led by his father K. Chandrasekhar Rao, recalled that Modi had attributed the weakening of the currency on corruption inside the federal government. The TRS leader also cited Modi's tweet indicating that rupee was hospitalised.
Another tweet by KTR with the hashtag "New India" reads, "Rupee at an All Time Low Jumlas at an All Time High." The TRS leader also made fun of Nirmala Sitharaman, the minister of finance for the Union.
When referring to a recent incident in Telangana's Kamareddy district when Sitharaman criticised the district collector for failing to find the PM's photo at a ration shop, KTR stated, "While rupee is at an all time low, Madam FM is busy looking for PM's photos in ration shops."
"The Rupee will follow its natural course, she will assure you. Hail Vishwa Guru, all economic troubles, unemployment, and inflation are caused by divine acts " KTR added.
The rupee hit an all-time low of 81.20 versus the US dollar on Friday after losing 41 paise.
