Former Indian captain MS Dhoni is counted among the greatest captains in the world. Many times Dhoni has won the team only on decisive occasions with his captaincy. However, Dhoni has been out of the team for the past nearly a year and currently, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant have been replaced but the main spinner of the team Kuldeep Yadav still misses Mahi a lot. Kuldeep says that Dhoni's departure has also lost his confidence. He said in Cricinfo's program Cricket, "When I started my career, I could not steam the pitch. I learned this after playing with Dhoni. He used to tell from behind the wicket where to spin the ball." He further said, 'Mahi Bhai was also an expert in the field era. He knew beforehand which shot the batsman would play, he used to field accordingly. With Dhoni, I was able to bowl with confidence. Ever since he left the team, my confidence has also gone."
Kuldeep further said that Australia's Steve Smith and South Africa's AB de Villiers are the two batsmen in the world who are very difficult to stop. He said, 'Smith plays mostly on the backfoot. He keeps watching the ball till the last time, so bowling in front of him becomes challenging. De Villiers is the best player in limited-overs cricket. He has a different style. Apart from these two, I do not feel dun by any other batsman.' On his poor performance, Kuldeep said that there was some lack of variations in his bowling. But now he has overcome this deficiency. He said, 'I wanted to recover from my poor performance of IPL 2019. That is why I had prepared more for the World Cup. During this time I also got in and out of the team several times, which also reduced my confidence.'
On his bonding with Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep said that he has always taken care of me like an elder brother. He often advises me. There was never any competition between us. Having MS Dhoni behind the wicket helped both of us a lot.
