The mobile medical laboratory, terming 'Lab Built on Wheels,' would combat the spread of contagious diseases, mainly among Karnataka's rural population. A medical unit, pharmacy, and minimally invasive emergency care unit are all included in each mobile lab.

Commenting on the development, the  Executive Vice President, Group HR Head, Infosys & Trustee, Infosys Foundation, Krish Shankar said: "We have always taken seriously our obligation to make a beneficial impact on the environment and the communities where we work. This is part of Infosys Foundation's ongoing efforts to ensuring that India's poor have inexpensive, timely access to clean, hygienic, and appropriate medical treatment and healthcare. We appreciate and thank the state government for their assistance and support.

The Infosys Foundation signed an MoU with Rotary Bangalore Southwest Charitable Trust (Rotary Trust) to fund the creation of these mobile labs with a gift of Rs 4 crores. The latter had worked with Saicorp Health Technologies (SHTPL), which had built these labs to BSL level 2 safety standards.
