Panna: The fate of a labourer in the Panna district of Madhya Pradesh has changed overnight. He has received a 6.66-carat diamond from the mine. The estimated price of this diamond is said to be Rs 12 to 15 lakh. There is an atmosphere of celebration in the house of labourer Shamsher Khan after receiving the diamond from the mine. Shamsher, 33, is a resident of Agra Mohalla in Panna city. He has received a diamond weighing 6.66 carats of gem quality (light yellowness) from the Hirapur Taprian Shallow Mine area.

The price of the diamond is estimated to be between Rs 12 and Rs 15 lakh. Shamsher's house has been in a state of celebration and happiness since the news of the diamond being found in the mine. Shamsher has deposited the diamond at the diamond office at the collectorate on Wednesday after receiving it. Diamond office watchman Anupam Singh said the diamond will be kept in the upcoming auction. The balance amount will be given to the diamond owner (Shamsher) after deducting royalty on the sale of the diamond in the auction.

Earlier, Ratan Prajapati, a resident of Benisagar Mohalla in Panna, had received a diamond weighing 8.22 carats from the mine area. The diamond was sold for Rs 37 lakh in the auction. Then, now a man named Shamsher has received a diamond. Panna's diamond office, the only diamond office in the country, is said to be facing an acute shortage of staff. Due to which the functioning here is affected and the diamond mine areas are not properly monitored.
