Lack of proper facilities in the new market of Batasingaram: Wholesaler

Hyderabad: Vendors, wholesalers of Kothapet fruit market allege that the new market at Batasingaram lacks proper facilities. Vendors said that the market in Batasingaram lacks civic amenities. The second problem is that of transportation. He alleges that the market officials harassed him on Sunday morning. Kothapet market, also known as Gaddianaram market, was shifted from the old fruit market at Jambagh in 1986. Since then, it has been the only regulated market for buying and selling of fruits in the city.

According to the vendors, the market officials recently took them to the new market in Batasingaram. But like the Kothapet fruit market, the new location does not have proper civic amenities. While the Kothapet market is of 24 acres, it has more than 200 shops/sheds and multiple platforms, the new market does not have any platform or shed. “We are in a dilemma, as we were asked to shift to Batasingaram from October 1, as the market has been closed permanently,” said Mohammad Asghar, a fruit wholesaler of Kothapet fruit market.

For the last 30 years I have settled in the area near the market. The main problem facing us is transportation, as the new market is about 40 km away. We will be forced to spend huge amounts on transportation to reach the area daily. Also the new market has not developed properly. Apart from this, my main concern is the remaining stock of fruits. I don't know what to do with it.
