New Delhi: On Wednesday, the Supreme Court heard the matter of the Lakhimpur violence. Meanwhile, the court has chosen Rakesh Kumar Jain, a former Punjab and Haryana High Court Judge, to oversee the investigation. The Supreme Court stated that a fair and independent inquiry is required. In addition, the UP SIT team includes three IPS officials. S B Shirodkar, Deepinder Singh, and Padmaja Chauhan are the officers. After the chargesheet is filed, the court will hear the matter, according to Justice Rakesh Jain.

In the most recent hearing in the Lakhimpur violence case, the Supreme Court chastised the Uttar Pradesh government. The court stated that the SIT in the case did not have confidence in the investigation. A high court judge must be appointed to oversee the inquiry in such a case. Simultaneously, the court stated, "We are sorry to inform that prima facie it looks that a certain offender is benefiting from overlap in two FIRs." In his defence, evidence is being gathered.

The case was considered by a bench consisting of Chief Justice (CJI) NV Ramana, Justice Suryakant, and Justice Hima Kohli. According to the bench, the SIT examining the matter is unable to distinguish between the two FIRs.. The Supreme court said the two FIR should be investigated separately. Separate charge sheets should be filed.
