Lakhimpur violence: SC issues notice to UP govt over Ashish Mishra's bail, seeks reply

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has issued notices to the main accused Ashish Mishra and the UP government in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case, seeking their response. Let us know that the bail granted by the Allahabad High Court to accused Ashish Mishra was challenged in the Supreme Court. The top court has ordered the government to provide protection to witnesses. The state government will file a report in court on the attack on a witness. The next hearing of the case will now be held on March 24. Eight people, including four farmers, lost their lives in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case.

The Supreme Court had agreed to hear Ashish Mishra's plea challenging his bail on Tuesday, March 11. Three members of the families of farmers killed in the violence in UP's Lakhimpur Kheri have moved a petition in the apex court challenging the Allahabad high court's grant of bail to Ashish Mishra, the main accused in the case, which was granted bail by a single bench of the Allahabad high court on February 10. He was previously in custody for four months.

Recently, advocates Shiv Kumar Tripathi and CS Panda had filed another petition seeking cancellation of the bail of Ashish Mishra, on whose letter the Supreme Court had taken suo motu cognisance of the incident.
