The Lakshadweep Education Department has released a new calendar that declares Fridays as working days and all Sundays as holidays for the islands' schools. It has put an end to the pupils' decade-long privilege of having Fridays off in the islands due to religious reasons. The adjustments in school time and period allotment were announced by the Lakshadweep Department of Education in a notification.

From the academic year 2021-22, the new school schedule will be in effect. From the academic year 2021-22, the Lakshadweep Education Department has also designated all Sundays as holidays for schools. Previously, holidays were celebrated on Fridays. Last month, the United Arab Emirates did the same.

In primary schools, the Department of Education has opted to deploy 'Halcyon Heights,' a happy learning experience activity. It will be used in grades 1 through 5. It will ensure a pleasant, immersive, and competency-based teaching-learning process in schools for the betterment of the learners' physical, mental, and social development, as well as equipping them with modern lifeskills and competencies for lifelong and sustainable learning.

Due consideration has been given to these courses in the adjusted period allotment for schools in Lakshadweep, in light of NEP 2020 with a modern teaching-learning strategy, which recognises subjects like physical and health education, art education, and work education as scholastic subjects.
