The sibling deities in Puri’s Jagannath temple have been adorned with Lakshmi- Nrusingha Besha on Baikuntha Chatturdarshi on Sunday. Upon completing the rituals like Mangal Arati, Mailam, Tadapalagi and Abakasha, the Sinhari Sevayats (servitors) decorated the sibling deities in Laxmi Nrusingha Besha.

The Lakshmi-Nrusingha Besha is done on Kartika Sukla Chaturdasi tithi (the 14th day of the bright fortnight of Kartika). This festival unfolds the truth that the powerful Nrusingha cult is given due recognition and importance in the Jagannath temple.

In the 2020 Kartika Purnima, which falls on Monday, the deities would be adorned with Rajarajeswar Besha. Due to the restrictions, owing to COVID-19, the devotees are prevented of getting darshan of the deities in the temple. The devotees cannot also sail the miniature boats in the waterbodies this year on Kartika Purnima. Miniature boat sailing is prohibited by the government to curb viral spread.
