Lala Lajpat Rai was a freedom fighter who was instrumental in the Indian independence movement. He was also known as Punjab Kesari, or the Lion of Punjab, and was one of the three major Congress politicians that comprised the Lal-Bal-Pal trio (Lala Lajpat Rai, Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Bipin Chandra Pal).

Many revolutionaries, notably Shaheed Bhagat Singh, were influenced by Lala Lajpat Rai. In 1894, he also established the Punjab National Bank (PNB) and the Laxmi Insurance Company.

During a protest against the Simon Commission in 1928, he was violently beaten up and lathi-charged by police. Rai died after a heart attack on November 17, 1928.

To sum up, Lala Lajpat Rai led a march in protest of the Simon Commission. Despite the fact that the demonstration was carried out peacefully, the British government attacked it and lathi-charged the demonstrators. During the fighting, Lala Lajpat Rai got significant head injuries and died of a heart attack on November 17, 1928.
