Lalu Yadav gets big relief in Doranda case, court grants bail

Patna: Lalu Prasad Yadav has been granted bail in the Doranda Treasury case related to the fodder scam. The case pertains to the withdrawal of Rs 139 crore from the Doranda Treasury. Between 1990 and 1995, Rs 139 crore was withdrawn from the Doranda Treasury. Almost 27 years later, the court had ruled on the scam in February this year, in which Lalu Yadav was found guilty. In this case, Lalu Yadav has been sentenced to five years in jail.

In 1996, the CBI had registered 53 cases for wrongful withdrawal of different amounts from different treasuries. The money was said to be spent on animals and their fodder in doubt. Of the 53 cases, the Doranda Treasury case was the largest. The highest number of criminals are 170. Of these, 55 criminals have died.

Lalu Yadav has already been convicted in 4 cases related to the same fodder scam. Lalu is on bail for the illegal withdrawal of Rs 37.7 crore from the Chaibasa treasury. He was sentenced to five years in prison. He is also on bail in the second case of embezzlement of Rs 79 lakh from the Deoghar treasury. In this case, he was sentenced to 3 and a half years in prison. Lalu Yadav was also granted bail in the third case of illegal withdrawal from the Chaibasa treasury worth Rs 33.13 crore. In this case, he was sentenced to 5 years in prison. In the fourth case of illegal withdrawal of Rs 3.13 crore from the Dumka Treasury, he was sentenced to 7 years each under two different sections, but in that too he is on bail.
