Italian supercar maker Lamborghini announced it will launch a fully-electric car in the second half of the decade. Presenting a transformation program, Lamborghini laid out “a roadmap for the decarbonization of future Lamborghini models and of the Sant’Agata Bolognese site,” its factory headquarters in Italy, and said the next decade will see the company transition to producing hybrid models before it launches a fully-electric car by 2030.

Stephan Winkelmann, President & CEO, Automobili Lamborghini said, “Lamborghini’s electrification plan is a newly-plotted course, necessary in the context of a radically-changing world, where we want to make our contribution by continuing to reduce environmental impact through concrete projects. Our response is a plan with a 360 degree approach, encompassing our products and our Sant’Agata Bolognese location, taking us towards a more sustainable future while always remaining faithful to our DNA.”

Lamborghini’s roadmap will comprise of three phases, of which the first phase includes celebrating its combustion engine vehicles with two new cars in the V12 model line-up to be announced this year. The second phase would see the company launch its first hybrid series production car by 2023, and electrify its entire range of vehicles by 2024. The company will also reduce its CO2 emissions by 50 per cent by the beginning of 2025. The third and final phase includes dedicating the second part of the decade to full-electric vehicles, with the vision of a fourth model in the future.

Leading the hybrid transition will be an unprecedented investment of more than 1.5 billion euros allocated over four years, the largest in Lamborghini’s history. Cor Tauri, the brightest star in the Taurus constellation, represents Lamborghini’s move towards a future that is electrified. The roadmap also lists the brand’s 360° approach towards 2030 and starts from a holistic vision of the company’s sustainability strategy.

Automobili Lamborghini closed the first quarter of 2021 by delivering 2,422 cars from January to March, marking its best results ever. The increase in sales was 25 per cent over the same period of 2020 and is 22 per cent higher than the first quarter of 2019, which now stands as the second best ever. The Urus continues to be the most popular Lamborghini model with 1,382 units sold, followed by the Huracán and Aventador with 287 units. Among the markets, the United States, China and Germany have shown positive momentum at this early stage of the year.
