Bhubaneswar: A large quantity of rotten fish of different species have been found floating in a pond in the Ganjam district of Odisha. Officials have informed in this regard on Saturday. Ganjam district fisheries officer Pramod Raut said the high carbon pond may have died of fish due to low oxygen levels or pollution.
The exact cause of the pond deaths in Krishna Nagar in Barhampur is yet to be ascertained. Fisheries authorities also did not refuse to poison the deaths. Locals said the dead fish were spotted on Thursday and the number increased on Friday. approximate spread throughout the area due to a foul smell from rotten fish weighing one quintal. Fisheries authorities have advised locals not to bring dead fish or use pond water until the test report is received. We will urge the Barhampur Municipal Commissioner to bury the dead fish, Raut said. Locals said that earlier fish was cultivated in the pond by the lessee, but last year fish was not cultivated in the pond.
