You must have heard the name of Sahara Desert. It remains the largest hot desert in the world. Actually, the name Sahara is derived from the Arabic word for desert 'Sahra', which means desert. North Africa is completely covered by this desert while a small part of it also falls in the continent of Asia. Today we are going to tell you some special and mysterious things of this desert, knowing that you will probably be surprised. Explain that the length of the Sahara Desert is 4800 kilometers while the width is 1800 kilometers. This area is almost equal to the desert continent of Europe and more than double the area of India. It is spread over about 92 lakh square kilometers.
The Sahara Desert has completely engulfed eight per cent of the land surface. The most important thing about it is that this desert is spread over 10 countries, which includes countries like Mali, Morocco, Mauritania, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Niger, Chad, Sudan and Egypt. Even though there are no favorable conditions for humans to live in the Sahara Desert, but around 500 creeping creatures are found here. Apart from this, around 1000 species of trees are also alive in this desert. However, trees are mostly found near the sources of water.
Like the other deserts, the Sahara also experiences severe heat during the day and severe cold at night. Usually, there is no snowfall in the deserts, but in 2016, there was snowfall, which surprised everyone. The reason behind this was stated that the temperature in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains, located near the desert, had gone 10-15 degrees below normal. At the same time a center of low pressure was generated at the height, due to which the wind came down sharply and created conditions like snowfall.
