Las Vegas to Unveil Its Largest Spherical Video Screen Venue

New Delhi:- It towers over the Las Vegas skyline like a giant spaceship, black and mysterious. At night, it shines like the Earth seen from space.

The MSG Sphere will be closed to the public for nearly three months before U2 hosts a series of concerts. But expectations are only rising.

At 366 feet high and 516 feet wide, it is believed to be the largest spherical structure in the world. Its bowl-shaped cinema hall is reportedly equipped with the world's highest-resolution wraparound LED screen. Also on its exterior are its 1.2 million LEDs, the size of a hockey puck, which can be programmed to flash large-scale dynamic images. It is also reportedly the largest in the world. It was fully lit for the first time on Tuesday night in honor of Independence Day.

Boasting the dancing fountains of the Bellagio, a half-replica of the Eiffel Tower, the second-tallest observation tower in the Western Hemisphere, and hundreds of beams of light in sight, it's not easy to move the needle miles away.

Sphere, however, elicits an enthusiastic response from those who see it. "Nothing compares. 'It's light years ahead of anything else out there,'" he said in a recent Apple Music video while U2's The Edge toured venues.

“Looking up and seeing what's in front of you is truly breathtaking,” said Sphere Chief Operations Officer Rich Claffey. "I've been in the entertainment industry for nearly 40 years. I've never seen anything like this before, but I'm not exaggerating. It's off the charts."

The outside of the sphere lights up day and night with seasonal animations and other images. For example, it can turn into a giant pumpkin for Halloween and a snow globe for Christmas. Some people on Twitter have already joked that giant swirling images are causing traffic accidents.

The sphere was designed by Populous, a global architectural firm that has designed many of the world's finest sports arenas. Pandemic-inflated construction costs have risen to $2.3 billion, surpassing Sphere's brightest Las Vegas neighborhood stadiums such as the Bellagio and Allegiant Stadium.

Seating approximately 18,000 people, the Globe is located a long block east of the legendary Las Vegas Strip and will be connected to the Venetian Resort complex by a pedestrian walkway. The opening is September 29th "U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere, his 25-part concert series centered around the Irish band's groundbreaking 1991 album Achtung Baby, runs through mid-December. Ticket prices start at $140. The venue will also host an exclusive screening of Darren Aronofsky's film Postcards from Earth, taking full advantage of Sphere's giant screen to give viewers a breathtaking tour of the planet.

“Most music venues are sports venues. These are made for sports, not for music. "This building was built for an immersive cinematic and performance experience. You can't come here and watch a hockey game." The street course of the Las Vegas F1 Grand Prix will pass through the Sphere in November, and the arena will eventually host boxing, mixed martial arts, and other events.

But the Sphere's main draw might be its live music venues, especially Las Vegas' famous mansions. On-stage acts are dwarfed by giant 16K LED screens that engulf most of the audience, allowing trippy animations and close-ups of the performers to enrich the concert experience.

"The screen reaches about 250 feet above the ground..." says Claffey, Sphere's director of operations. "Sitting in this bowl leaves you completely immersed. I loved his IMAX in New York City, but this one will blow your mind." Sphere's producers also promise top-notch audio. Arranged around the bowl, Claffey says, his more than 160,000 speakers deliver the same pristine sound whether you're sitting in the top row or on the floor.

The venue is also equipped with tactile sheets that vibrate depending on what is happening on the screen (such as an earthquake) and a 4D machine that can create wind, temperature and even scent effects. “I tell my friends and family this is the place of the future,” says Craffey.

It might sound like a big deal, but this is Las Vegas. It remains to be seen if Sphere can live up to its extravagant promise. But if it works, the live music experience may never be quite the same.
