Popular singer Lata Mangeshkar is celebrating her birthday today. Lata Mangeshkar was born on 28 September 1929 in the Marathi family of Indore to Pandit Deendayal Mangeshkar. Her father was also a theater artist and singer, so she inherited music. Lata Mangeshkar was named Hema after she was born, but after 5 years of birth, her parents named her 'Lata'. Lata is the eldest of all her siblings. Meena, Asha, Usha and Hridaynath are younger than her. A few days after she was born, her family moved to Maharashtra.

Lata Mangeshkar started her musical journey with Marathi films. She sang a song for the Marathi film 'Kiti Haasal' (1942) 'Naachu Yaa Gade, Khelu Saari Mani Haus Bhaari', but in the end, the song was removed from the film. Vinayak acted in Navyuga Chitrapat's Marathi film Pehli Mangala Gaur (1942) and sang the song 'Natalie Chaitrachi Naalai' in the film.

Lata worked in her father's Marathi musical theater when she was 5 years old. Her father died in 1942. During this time she was only 13 years old. Vinayak (Vinayak Damodar Karnatki), owner of Navyuga Chitrapat Film Company and friend of her father, took over her family and helped make Lata Mangeshkar a singer and actress. In 1947, after partition of India, Ustad Amanat Ali went to Pakistan. Lata learned music from Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, Pandit Tulsidas Sharma and Amanat Khan Devasle. After Vinayak's death in 1948, Ghulam Haider became Lata's music mentor. And with this Lata Mangeshkar has given many great songs to the world.
