Chennai: The Lavanya suicide case, a 17-year-old student from Tamil Nadu, has taken a new turn. Lavanya's grandmother has also justified the allegations of the pressure of Christian conversion being levelled by the family. She made this statement during an interview on a YouTube channel 'Chanakya'. Lavanya's grandmother Mangayarkarasi said that during treatment at the hospital, Lavanya had told her uncle about consuming poison due to pressure on herself to become a Christian.

YouTube channel Chanakya published this interview on Sunday (February 20). Lavanya's grandmother has alleged, "Even after the Madras High Court transferred the case to the CBI, the Tamil Nadu police are searching the house of us. The police are questioning our own family. A police officer named Sarvanan came to us for investigation. I told him I didn't know anything about the case. Another woman policeman took me with her to investigate the matter. I was silent most of the time so they started questioning about my sister's husband, who was in Coimbatore. Then they asked me to tell them everything. The policemen were constantly coming to our house till they interviewed Chanakya on February 10. Every day, 4-5 policemen used to come to our house. They all asked the same questions. There was a sub-inspector head. They always came with 2-3 policemen. And asked the same question over and over again. '

The deceased was a student of Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School in Thanjavur. She had consumed poison and killed herself. In her statement before her death, she had told about the atrocities committed on herself. Lavanya had alleged that she was forced to clean the toilet. This was because she refused to become a Christian. Talking about her last meeting with Lavanya, her grandmother said, "I met her for the last time when she was admitted to a hospital in Thanjavur for treatment. '

The Madras High Court, while transferring the case to the CBI, had criticised the steps taken by the Tamil Nadu government. In this case, an attempt was also made to hide the angle of conversion. The High Court had made it clear that the statement given before the death of the victim cannot be ignored. The court had also questioned the working style of the Tamil Nadu Police. The appeal against these orders in the Supreme Court also did not do much to the Tamil Nadu government.
