NEW DELHI: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said he discussed aggressively establishing the Russia-India-China trilateral mechanism with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar in the interests of stabilising world relations and maintaining "justice in international affairs."

"This is especially true today that Russia, India, and China are all members of the United Nations Security Council. As a result, we have a lot of plans "He said this in response to a question about Moscow looking to Beijing and New Delhi to compensate for a possible drop in its energy exports. "Both countries are important allies of ours. We all take part in a variety of international competitions... There's the RIC (Russia, India, China), and then there's our 'troika.' "He said this in response to Moscow's proposal for a RIC summit earlier this year.

After a two-day visit to India, Lavrov returned to Moscow on Friday. He met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi and spoke with Jaishankar on the ongoing crisis in Ukraine, the crude offer, and the armaments agreement.  Lavrov informed Prime Minister on the situation in Ukraine, including ongoing peace talks.

Modi reaffirmed his appeal for an immediate end to the violence and expressed India's willingness to assist in any way with peace efforts.
