New Delhi: Lieutenant General PN Hoon who led 'Operation Meghdoot' has passed away. PN Hoon breathed his last in Chandigarh on Monday evening at the age of 91. The Indian Army under the leadership of PN Hoon hoisted the tricolor on the world's highest peak Siachen. PN Hoon was born in Abbottabad, Pakistan, but his family migrated to India at the time of Partition. In 1987, he retired as head of the Western Command. After this, he joined BJP in 2013.

Lieutenant General PN Hoon was undergoing treatment at the Command Hospital in Panchkula for the last two days. The doctors declared him dead on January 6 at 5.30 pm. PN Hoon played an important role in the fight between India and Pakistan in 1984. On 13 April 1984, the Indian Army started Operation Meghdoot to deal with enemies in Siachen.

The special thing was that the clothes and accessories worn in the snow had reached the Indian Army only on the night of 12 April.
