BEIRUT : Lebanon's Presidency said in a statement that the country's 78th Independence Day was commemorated on Monday with a military parade.

According to reports, the march began with a 21-gun salute and ended with President Michel Aoun placing a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Defense Ministry in Yarzeh, southeast of Beirut. Due to the current situation in Lebanon and the circumstances brought about by the coronavirus, the traditional reception at the presidential palace was not held this year.

The Lebanese Air Force flew helicopters and Tucano planes over the event, bearing a Lebanese flag. A military parade with internal security forces, general security forces, the UN Interim Forces in Lebanon, the Lebanese Army Military Academy, the Lebanese navy, and others followed. President Aoun held a speech the day before to commemorate the event, promising to get Lebanon back on track with reforms in order to get the country out of its crisis. The symbolic civil show held at the port showed people's hardship and unrest as a result of the Lebanese calamities.
