In an effort to reduce power usage, the Indian Railways said, it was designed to make all stations cent per cent LED lit by March 2018.An LED  light is an integrated light that uses light emitting diodes (LED) as its light source. These are measured integrated lights because, in most cases, the luminaries and the match are not separate parts. In industrialized, the LED light cluster is sealed on a panel and then assembled to the LED panel with a heat sink to become an integrated lighting fixture.Similar designs have been formed that incorporate various types of LEDs into a light fixture. Either few high-power LEDs or many low-power LEDs may be used. The shape of the LEDstreetlightt depends on several factors, including LED configuration, the heat sink used with the LEDs and visual design preference.

A speech issued by the Ministry of railways said, the Centre is working towards providing 100 per cent LED lighting for energy needs in railway staff colonies, stations and platforms. The statement further said it is a huge initiative to provide energy efficient lighting which will eventually greatly help in the conservation of environment as well.

"By November 2017, about 3,500 railway stations had already been provided with cent per cent LED lights. About 20 lakh such lights were installed. The scheme will reduce consumption by about 10 per cent of the total energy being utilised for its non-traction uses, conserving about 240 million units of electricity, which will keep the Railways about 180 crore rupees yearly," .
