Former Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said on Friday that recent political developments in the state indicate that the political climate favours the Left parties.

Sarkar credited the whole Left cadre base for ushering in the change ahead of the elections, saying that it was the party's people who struggled hard in the trench to herald this change. Sarkar was addressed at the Agartala Town Hall during a tribute meeting for late CPIM leader and former Minister Narayan Rupini.

"Despite all obstacles and intimidation, the CPIM and its wings' loyal workers are working hard to bring the party back to life. "Resolutions were passed during the party's state conference on February 24-25 to pump fresh blood into the organisation and to attract new ideas into the party," he continued. Sarkar also advised that party workers conduct public outreach programmes in order to stoke popular animosity of the ruling party.

"Since the BJP-RSS came to power, a sinister plan to sow division has been in the works. "An attempt is being made to cause discord between tribal and non-tribal groups, which is harmful to the prevailing harmony between tribals and non-tribal communities," Sarkar stated.

The veteran leader reflected on Narayan Rupini, saying that leaders like him opened the path for the younger generation to be exposed to the democratic struggle. Leaders like him showed youth the right.
