Dehradun: Leopard kills an elderly woman cutting grass in the Gaula barrage forest of Kathgodam area of Haldwani, located in Uttarakhand. Leopard dragged her from the herd of women. This second incident of Leopard's attack has come to light within 17 days. Earlier, on 23 June 2020, the woman going to the temple in Sunakot village had been victimized by Leopard. Keeping both the incidents in mind, the forest department has declared Leopard a man-eater. 60-year-old Pushpa Sanguri, a resident of Kathgodam Gola Barrage, went to the forest on Saturday morning to take fodder for cattle in the forest, about three km from the barrage. But around 9:30 am, while cutting the grass, Leopard caught on Pushpa and dragged her away.

Hearing Pushpa's scream, fellow women started shouting and ran towards the village. Hearing the scream, some villagers also came out towards the forest. As soon as the information was received, the forest workers and the police, with the help of the villagers, found the body of the woman after half an hour. After keeping the dead body in the house for some time, it was sent for post-mortem. Forest Officer Manora Range Bhupal Singh Mehta gave a compensation of Rs 1 lakh to the woman's family and Rs 10,000 for cremation. The remaining amount of compensation will also be given to the family till Monday.

According to the information received, after the death of two women in Sonkot and Gaula barrage, Leopard has been declared a man-eater. Orders have been given to kill Leopard from the office of the Chief Wildlife Guardian. Soon after arranging the shooters, Leopard will be killed.
