The City Of God Varanasi attracts many globetrotters around the globe every year. In a global and national prospective Varanasi know for its temples and ghats. But let me tell you that now  Varanasi will no more be restricted to the temples and ghats, thanks to the 10-day hot air balloon festival that was kick-started here from 25th December. Started at the bank of River Ganga, this festival is being organised by a private tour operator in collaboration with the Uttar Pradesh (UP) Tourism.

Even though an exciting thing to happen for travellers from all parts of the world who visit Varanasi, this 10-day hot air balloon festival at the popular spiritual destination is being run as a pilot project to test the feasibility of making it a permanent adventure sport at the destination. Vikas Narayan, Assistant Tourism Officer at UP Tourism said, “Varanasi has a large scope of adventure tourism and despite having river and many landscapes, it has not been explored yet. The Hot Air Balloon service is an initiative in this direction. It is on a 10-day trial as of now and after examining the response, it can be made permanent”.

10-day hot air balloon festival starts in Varanasi, costs INR 500 per ride

Narayan further added that the hot air balloon ride in Varanasi will cost INR 500 at the moment, which is a lot more reasonable as compared to the amount charged for this adventure activity in other parts of the country.

For now, the flying balloon activity over River Ganga has created a lot of buzz among both the tourists and locals of Varanasi as they were all drawn to the bank in order to witness and experience the activity.

We have all known Varanasi as a destination having photogenic banks along with River Ganga itself. Let’s just hope that the hot air balloons make the views of the destination even more amazing for the tourists.
