India and Pakistan face a lot of challenges from neighboring countries. Lieutenant General Joshi is currently posted as the Chief of Staff of the Northern Command. On February 1, he will replace General Ranbir Singh as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of this command.

Apart from Lieutenant General Joshi, Lt. General CP Mohanty has also got a new appointment regarding border security. He has been made the commander of the Southern Command. He will replace Lieutenant General SK Saini, who is going to take over as the new Deputy Chief of the Army on Saturday. The post of Deputy Chief of Army Staff has been lying vacant since General MM Narwane became the new Chief of Army Staff. Lieutenant General Mohanty also has experience in conducting operations along the borders with Pakistan and China and has also been active in counter-insurgency operations in Assam. Lieutenant General Mohanty has also headed the Multilateral UN Brigade in Congo. Presently, he is posted in the role of General Officer Commanding of the North India Area.
