PRATAPGARH: Nearly 32 years after the incident, the district and sessions judge in Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh, has sentenced two murder suspect brothers to life in jail.

Ram Bahadur Singh, a lawyer by profession, and Siddharth Singh were given life sentences by Sanjay Shankar Pandey, the district and sessions judge in Pratapgarh. The court also slapped a fine of Rs 45,000 each on both the convicts.

After the judgment, both of the convicts who had been in court, were taken into custody and imprisoned.
The father of the other two suspects, Parasnath Singh, died during the case's trial.

Pati Raj Singh was shot dead by the brothers on September 27, 1990 in the village of Pure Keshav Rai in the Pratapgarh district due to a disagreement involving agricultural property.

The court had ruled in favour of Pati Raj Singh.

Pati Raj Singh had sown Jowar in his field. On September 27, 1990, when Parasnath Singh was forcibly reaping the harvest, Pati Raj Singh and his wife Kaushalya reached there and objected. During the argument, Parasnath Singh called his sons Ram Bahadur Singh and Siddharth Singh and instigated them to shoot the husband and wife. Both opened fire on Pati Raj Singh and Kaushalya Devi.

Pati Raj Singh died on way to hospital while Kaushalya Devi sustained injuries.
