Bhopal: Due to the lockdown, everyone's work was stalled, now work has started slowly. Meanwhile, for the first time in Madhya Pradesh, liquor traders and the government have come face to face. The government wants to open shops and businesses want to be closed. Actually, the shop operators are not satisfied with the option given by the Commercial Tax Department to compensate for the loss caused by the lockdown. On Friday, 80 per cent of the shops were closed by adamant traders on their demands. On the other hand, the government has given them a chance to choose the option by May 28.

Actually, the petition of the shop operators is to be heard in the High Court on 27 May. On the other hand, the government's strategy is to keep silence till May 28. If the matter is not resolved, a strategy will be decided on May 29 regarding liquor shops. This time, contracts have been signed for three thousand 605 (one thousand 61 foreign and two thousand 544 country) liquor shops in the state at 25 percent higher rate. The government is being told to expect an annual income of about Rs 13,50,000 crore and if various license fees are also included, it is estimated to get revenue of about Rs 15,000 crore.

The contractors had taken contracts under the attractive excise policy, but as soon as the new financial year started, the corona epidemic knocked that lockdown and liquor shops could not open for one and a half months. Whereas, according to the contractors, this is the season when alcohol is consumed the most. Keeping in view the revenue loss, when the government allowed the conditional liquor shops to be opened during lockdown, the contractors were not ready in some districts.
