Telangana has seen a sharp increase in the sale of liquor on October 15 during the Dussehra festival. It is estimated that liquor worth over Rs 150 crore was sold across the state on Dussehra. The Excise Department said that the sale of beer has increased by 53 percent in the last few days. The sales are expected to increase further as it is the weekend after the festival.

The sale of liquor has been increasing rapidly in the last one year and the pandemic has further fueled the demand. According to a report, liquor sales were higher in May 2021 as compared to the previous Dussehra season, which is considered the peak month for the sale of liquor. On the other hand, Assam Excise Department had declared dry day in Guwahati on Dashami i.e. 15th October.

In the background of Durga Puja, Deputy Commissioner Pallava Gopal Jha, by order on the basis of 52 no resolutions, declared the day of Vijayadashami on October 14, 15 as a dry day till Durga Visarjan. All foreign and country liquor godowns / IMFL 'off' / 'on' clubs 'on', retailers of country liquor and business establishments selling liquor were directed to be closed.
