NEW DELHI: The Counting of votes has begun today at 8 AM for the bypolls in the Lok Sabha seats of Phulpur and Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh.
The 
bypolls had held after UP CM Adityanath and Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya vacated their Lok Sabha seats of Gorakhpur and Phulpur, respectively, upon being elected to the state Legislative Council last year after Assembly Polls.

According to early trends, Samajwadi Party in Phulpur was leading with 6744 votes while the BJP was trailing with 4379 votes.

Now the BJP is leading with 3,134 votes in Campierganj Vidhan Sabha (Gorakhpur) while SP is trailing by 3,300 votes. Early trends showed lead for the SP-BSP combine in Phulpur. 

Meanwhile, counting for round four ends in Phulpur.

Round four of counting in Phulpur Lok Sabha constituency is underway. The SP is leading with 12,383 votes, BJP is trailing with 9,906 votes.

According to the Election Commission Independent candidate, Ateeq Ahmad has the lowest 2,570 votes.

According to the reports, SP's Nagendra Pratap Singh Patel leading by 1,058 votes with 22,460 votes, BJP's Kaushlendra Singh Patel at a close second with 21,402 votes.

According to the additional commissioner of the Election Commission, round four of counting is over in Phulpur Lok Sabha constituency. The EC said that there were delays due to "some problem" with one EVM.

Voting for the two seats held on Sunday. While 47 percent of the voters exercised their franchise in Gorakhpur, in Phulpur very lower 38 percent votes recorded. The BJP is upset due to the SP-BSP association. SP-BSP association will eat Dalit votes, especially in Phulpur. In fact, Phulpur has never been a BJP stronghold.
