Aizawl: The Assam Rifles in a statement said that in a major successful operation launched jointly with the leaders of Tiau Kai village of Champhai district of Mizoram on the Indo-Myanmar border on Saturday, stores like ammunition and other war recovered. Based on specific information, the Assam Rifles team along with village council representatives of Tiau Kai village conducted extensive searches in the nearby forest and recovered a huge quantity of ammunition and war-like stores, the statement said.

The recovered items included 100 live tablets, 38 NeoGel Gelatin and 251 detonators. The statement said the seizures have prevented loss of precious lives as the use of such ammunition and war-like stores can endanger the lives of innocent people and give rise to illegal activities. In a similar incident, at least two persons, including a Myanmarese national, were accused of possessing 80 grams of heroin worth Rs 2.45 lakh at different places in Mizoram, an official statement from the state's State Excise and Narcotics Department said on Sunday. People have been arrested.

A 39-year-old woman from Myanmar, identified as Gawihsiyanwungi, was arrested for possessing 58.7 grams of heroin worth Rs 1.75 lakh during a raid near Zote village in Champhai district. In another seizure, the department also seized 22 grams of heroin in Aizawl's Hunther area on Saturday, the statement said. It said a drug smuggler identified as Lalrindika (28), a resident of Bethel Veng in Champhai district, was arrested for possessing narcotics worth Rs 70,000.
