Patna: The number of patients falling ill after drinking palm wine in the state is once again seeing an increase. It is being told that by drinking palm wine, people's liver infections and liver is getting worse. Yes and in this case, doctors say that 77 to 80% of the liver victims of pus disease (amoebic liver abuses) in liver coming for treatment at IGIMS has been damaged by drinking palm wine. Yes, and about two per cent of them have even died.

It is reported that these things have come to light in the research led by Dr Ashish Jha, Assistant Professor, Department of Gastroenterology, IGIMS. In fact, 198 patients suffering from liver pus formation were researched in IGIMS and 80% of them were found to be stale or old palm wine drinkers. Most of these patients were malnourished.

On the other hand, in the conversation with the patients, it has been revealed that they used to drink two-day-old palm wine or morning palm wine in the evening. On the other hand, some said that there was dirt in the place selling palm wine, where the risk of infection is found to be high. At present, there are about 25 patients admitted to the gastro department of the institute, who are sick after drinking palm wine, while five to 10 patients are coming to the OPD daily for treatment.

It is being said that this research has been published in two prestigious international journals JGH-Open and Tropical Doctors and doctors are reducing infections by giving antibiotics and another medicine for a month. At present, around 25 patients are admitted to the gastro department of the institute, who are ill after drinking palm wine.
