Chandigarh: The Panjab and Haryana High Court today stayed the Haryana government's law which provided for 75 per cent reservation to locals in the private sector. The court has asked the Haryana government to present its stand. Let us know that the State Employment Local Candidates Act in Haryana came into force from January 15.

The Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), which is part of the state's coalition government, had made this promise in the assembly elections. JJP leader and Deputy CM Dushyant Chautala reacted to the decision by tweeting. He said Haryanvis will continue their fight for 75 per cent reservation in jobs to the youth. The petitioners argued in the court that in the private sector, people are given jobs on the basis of merit and skills, if the right to choose employees from private companies is taken away, they will have a problem in furthering their business. The petition further said that this decision of the Haryana government violates the rights of the deserving people.

The Manohar Lal Khattar government of Haryana had implemented the Local Persons Employment Act 2020 from January 15. However, its notification was issued in 2021 itself. The law was said to remain in force for 10 years. There was a provision of 2 years relaxation in the law regarding startups. It asked the ITI pass youth to give priority in employment. The Act had said that the benefit of the scheme would be available only to the natives of Haryana.
