The lockdown was implemented throughout the country to prevent infection with the corona virus. However, the most impact of the lockdown has been on our environment and nature. Due to the pure air and calm atmosphere, we are seeing many good changes today. During this time, the banks of the Chambal river have also spoken to the children of the Gharial that are becoming extinct. Yes, Gharial sanctuary remains in 435 km area of Chambal river in Dhaulpur of Rajasthan, Deori in Madhya Pradesh and Wah area of Agra district of Uttar Pradesh. There is a lot of effort to save the Gharial and increase their number here. At present, the number of gongs in the Chambal river is 1859. If children of Gharial born are added, then their number can be around three thousand.

Let us tell you that more than 1100 gharial children have come out of eggs in Deori of Madhya Pradesh and Dholpur range of Rajasthan. Along with this, children have come out of the eggs from the Wah of Agra. If the length of these children is 1.2 meters, then they will be left in the river. Short-length children are kept in the sanctuary center and are released into the Chambal river when the length is complete. Let us tell you that before 1980 when the gongs of the Indian species were surveyed, then only 40 gongs were found in the Chambal river at that time, while in 1980 their number increased to 435. From the same time this area was declared a Gharial reserve area.

Actually, people are very happy to see the jump of these children in the herd on the banks of Chambal river. This is seen for the first time when thousands of crocodile children have been born. The reproduction period of the crocodile lasts from April to June. The female crocodile digs a pit of 30 to 40 cm in sand in May-June and lays 40 to 70 eggs. When rustling starts in these eggs, the female removes the sand and takes out the children and takes them to the Chambal River.
