New Delhi: On Saturday, Lok Sabha Speaker and BJP MP from Indore Sumitra Mahajan, returned police vehicles and security personnel provided to her as part of the protocol, in view of the Model Code of Conduct. It is worth mentioning here that Mahajan, in a letter to Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath, said that she had stopped using the government vehicles from March 10 itself, when the Election Commission announced the date of Lok Sabah elections.

The letter reads "In view of the upcoming Lok Sabha election, the model code of conduct has come into effect across the country since March 10. I have stopped using government vehicles from that day only. But being in the Constitutional post of the Lok Sabha Speaker, police vehicles and guards were accompanying my private vehicle,". To be noted that She added in her letter "In a peaceful and safe city like Indore, I do not need vehicles and guards given under protocol. I know that neither my candidature has been announced nor I have filled any election form and an official notice for Indore Lok Sabha elections Commission has also not been issued. I want to inform you that I am giving up these facilities,".

However, It is to be noted that Mahajan has been representing the Indore constituency of Madhya Pradesh since 1989. Elections in Indore will be held on May 19. Amid new amendments the election commission has also restrict parties to release manifesto within 48 hours of manifesto to launch.
