Amritsar: The Union Home Ministry (MHA) has issued a lookout circular against Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MLA Bikram Singh Majithia. An FIR was registered against him a day earlier in a drug-related case. The Bureau of Investigation of Punjab Police had also reportedly appealed to the immigration department over the lookout circular.

According to an FIR filed under Sections 25, 27A and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, Bikram Singh Majithia has misused government vehicles, safety and official machinery to facilitate the smuggling of synthetic drugs. Sources said an FIR has been registered against Majithia on the basis of a 34-page STF report submitted to the High Court in 2018 by the then ADGP and STF Chief Harpreet Sidhu.

Meanwhile, Akali Dal leaders alleged that an FIR has been registered against Majithia under pressure from Punjab Congress unit president Navjot Singh Sidhu and Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi. The Akali Dal has been alleging for the past few days that the state government has been constantly pressurising Punjab police officials to file cases against Bikram Singh Majithia and other party leaders.
