L&T forms the Green Energy Council with the help of industry veterans

Mumbai: In a significant step towards developing a global green energy business, Larsen & Toubro (L&T), an Indian multinational company involved in infrastructure, hi-tech manufacturing, and services, announced the creation of the L&T Green Energy Council, a think-tank made up of eminent thought leaders.

The council will be in charge of identifying technological trends in green energy, analysing the developments in world policy as they change, assessing new business models, and offering collaboration advice.

"We are excited to announce the formation of the L&T Green Energy Council, which brings together eminent thought leaders who are leading the charge for advancing green energy on a global scale.

This council will act as a resourceful hub of knowledge and strategic direction as we solidify our commitment to creating a top-tier green energy company. We are confident in our ability to make significant contributions to India's transition towards a sustainable and carbon-neutral future, as our nation aims to achieve energy independence by 2047 and reach Net Zero by 2070, said Mr. S.N. Subrahmanyan, CEO & MD, L&T.

Mr Subramanian Sarma, Whole-Time Director & Senior Executive Vice President (Energy), L&T, spoke at the event and said, "The establishment of the L&T Green Energy Council with world-class global experts is a testament to L&T's commitment to the green transition in India, and the council's guidance will be instrumental in building a top-tier green energy business."

The co-president of the European Solar Manufacturing Council is Prof. Eicke R. Weber, a leading expert on renewable energy technologies. He also serves in an honorary capacity as the German Energy Storage Association's president.

One of the top thought leaders in the green hydrogen economy is Mr. Bart Biebuyck. He was the Executive Director of the Clean Hydrogen Partnership, an esteemed public-private alliance between the European Commission, Hydrogen Europe, and Hydrogen Europe Research, until recently. He now works to make large-scale hydrogen production facilities a reality around the globe and supports nations in achieving their decarbonization goals by creating hydrogen ecosystems.

At the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE), one of the top international research organisations on renewable energy technologies in Germany, Prof. Christopher Hebling is the director of Hydrogen Technologies. He also represents Germany in the Executive Committee of the International Energy Agency's Technology Collaboration Programme (TCP) for the Generation and Utilisation of Hydrogen. He also serves as the Co-Chair of the National Organisation Hydrogen and Fuel Cells, NOW,'s board of directors.

 

One of the top technological innovators in the world today working with electrochemical materials is Prof. Patrice Simon. He is a member of the French Academy of Sciences and is currently a distinguished professor at the Université Paul Sabatier. He also oversees the CNRS's French programme on batteries. 'Alistore ERI''s former director was Prof. Simon.

India takes on a crucial role in the fight against climate change as the world works towards a Net-Zero economy. In order to significantly reduce atmospheric emissions and reduce pollutants in cities, it is essential to innovate and scale up cutting-edge clean energy technologies. L&T is steadfastly committed to contributing significantly to the development of India's green energy future by leveraging strong capabilities in the energy sector. L&T has already started initiatives involving green hydrogen project development/EPC, electrolyser manufacturing, and battery cell manufacturing with the goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2040.
